Dubbo is a football stronghold and it is moving to the next level with 15 coaches completing stage one of a Level C Coaching course.
Western NSW Director Andrew Fearnley and a team of Football NSW Development Officers conducted the course that ran from Friday to Sunday.
Mr Fearnley says the course was aimed at coaches working with advanced beginner to competent level players aged approximately twelve (12) years of age and above.
“The course is designed to provide a logical connection to the Foundation of Football Certificate covering in greater detail:
(1) the technical aspects of the game, including teaching the basics of passing, receiving and dribbling with the ball, as well as defending strategies;
(2) the principles of coaching and comprehension of the principles of play; and
(3) around the concept of teaching behaviour using various sorts of practice methods,” Andrew explained.
He added the C Course is a prerequisite for the B Diploma and includes the Football of Football.
Those undertaking the course will participate in practical sessions covering the basics of techniques as well as learning about basic playing principles of the game. The course is mostly practical and not graded, allowing the student to participate in the training sessions if they so choose. The course also promotes participating in group discussions with the goal of exchanging experiences.
The Foundation of Football course is a prerequisite for the C Diploma.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for those who play the game and have been coached at various levels to enhance our own knowledge so we can give back to the community,” former NPL Premiership winning captain Jamie Lobb who has agreed to captain-coach Macquarie United in 2024 said.
Football NSW sponsored female coaches, building on the incredible level of interest raised by the Matildas and the World Cup.
The course runs over two weekends with the next on January 20-21.
