During a 16-year stint as owner of the Girilambone store, Brian Smith had to apply for a licence which required a background check through the police.
Some days later, a constable arrived at the store and sat himself on the counter spreading out the results in front of Brian for him to see.
“Which one is you?” the constable asked suspiciously.
